The Extended Version
I began my entrepreneurial career as a freelance artist (writer, composer, director, actor). Despite the fact you’ve probably never heard of me (which speaks to how not-so-famous I was) I managed to pay my bills for five wonderful crazy years.
Then I decided to try something new and I achieved my MBA (Rotman) majoring in portfolio investing and financial management. (Quite the departure from the arts, eh? I admit it’s odd, but I guess I’m just a curious person with diverse interests.)
The next 25 years immersed me in the corporate media world (Globe and Mail, Rogers, CBC, Reader’s Digest). Working mainly in the advertising/marketing divisions, a major focus of my work was directed towards helping financial institutions (banks / credit unions)
connect with consumers via advertising. My work supported their products such as mortgage, LOC, investing, insurance; however, I specialized in mortgage and credit products. I also mentored all sales teams regarding how to win more advertising business from financial
institutions.
Regarding financial experience, I oversaw the finance division in the Toronto office for Reader’s Digest as well as took on many budgetary responsibilities at most other companies (forecasting, cost reduction, strategic budgeting).
I spent the last 15 years in my corporate career learning all things technology and innovation. I believe the mortgage broker role should continue to be the main force within this ecosystem that drives the technological evolution of our real estate industry.
After the pandemic receded, I realized I wanted to leave the 9-5 cubicle-world and started a small business teaching investors how to trade options in the stock market. I thoroughly enjoyed mentoring and guiding people and realized that the mortgage world was my next adventure.
And here we are. Why do I want to be a Mortgage Agent? My story is simple. I’d like to leverage my financial, sales, innovation and personal experiences with mortgages to help Canadians find homes and improve their financial situation.
