Post-Production Audio Editors

This is an exciting opportunity for an emerging audio editor to develop their skills on a professional project
(which will be published and used widely across Canada).

  • in addition to financing services we offer educational videos to help educate the younger generation about financial literacy
  • we require an audio editor to help elevate the quality of our educational videos

Job Type

  • temporary / contract / freelance
  • daytime hours
  • this contract will last until Feb 28 with the possibility of an extension
  • interested candidates do not need to make a long-term commitment; everyone hired will have a chance to work on projects depending on their availability
  • 100% remote
  • Canadian applicants only
  • hired editors will need to invoice for payment and they will need to report such income on their T1 general income tax

Job Hourly Rate

  • $40 /hr (we hope to pay a higher rate in the future should our company acquire more work to give to editors)
  • approximate # of hours 12 – 24 / month

Job Summary

  • edit / clean up raw audio files from their original form and transform them into professional quality audio files that are at the standard expected by audiences
  • the final audio file will be used for educational video purposes

Tasks

  • edit out background buzz noise, echo
  • mute vocal “noise” (eg: loud inhales of breath, dry mouth…etc)
  • mute background noise (voices in background, dogs barking, construction noises)
  • transform audio files into professional quality files that are at the standard expected by audiences
  • audio files to be delivery in normal audio file formats
  • requires 1 day turnaround (see “how it works” below for more information)
  • the hiring manager is in Ontario, but candidates are welcome to apply from all over Canada
  • communication with manager via email / phone / video
  • when possible, candidates will be expected to be available for communication between EST time periods of 9am – 5pm. 
  • accommodations can be made for candidates in non-EST time zones

How it works

  • the editor will receive 24 hrs notice of a new audio file needing a clean up and the exact time it will be sent to editor
  • if editor is available, the completion deadline will be 36 hours later 
  • Example:
    • Monday 9am editor contacted and deadline will be confirmed as Wednesday morning
    • if editor is available, the file will be sent to them Tuesday afternoon 
    • expected completion time = Wednesday morning
    • If editor is not available, the job will be given to the next editor in the roster; the editor who declined will get more work when their turn rotates back to them

Skills Required (must have)

  • 1-2 years experience editing audio for professional quality projects which are consumed by the general public (projects can include school projects, but experience is also required with projects outside of school work)
  • experience with industry leading audio editing software
  • experience working with clients who require post-production audio editing work. Editor must have experience following clients’ instructions and clients’ feedback 
  • applicants do not need to have had previous paid professional experience helping clients, but they must have experience working on post-production audio editing projects for people that are not just school-project related
  • audio editing students are welcome to apply but they need to have experience working on post-production audio editing projects that are also non-school projects

Skills Required (nice to have)

  • Professionally paid experience working for clients
  • Portfolio available for review of past projects
  • Reference list of past clients
